As a huge fan of the Animal Crossing games I could hardly contain my excitement when I got the 'Let's go to the City' game, bundled with Wii Speak. I couldn't wait to get writing about how the new Wii game works out.

I'll be blogging my way through the experience right here on this page - so you can enjoy it too.

Mass Effect 2 puts right disappointments from the first game on the 360. But, for all its nuanced storytelling, it still struggles to escape from being an awkward and lumpy middle child. Whereas Empire Strikes Back managed to revel in its position and be its own film, Mass Effect 2's heavily treaded storytelling wants to get us to part three.

Shadow Complex on XBLA is a mix of glee and sorrowful violence. As we hear in the finale song, this is a real experience of light and dark day and night. Out of this contradictory affair though comes an experience that is surprisingly grown-up and a lot of fun to play.

Echoes is a good examples of frivolous gaming. It's one of the new PSP Mini range that are soon playable on the PS3 as well. As such, it doesn't offer anything more than a distraction compared to meatier games. What it does offer though is challenging fun for five minutes, even if it's not exactly thought provoking. More suited to PlayStation Portable then than big brother PS3

Much like Echoes, Blast Off is another great example of a game that you can dip in and out of. Fitting it's PSP Mini format well, it might not be the lengthiest of games nor the most complicated of games but it is certainly enjoyable. Blast Off on the PlayStation Portable is that strange combination between compulsion and frustration that at times came close to being thrown out of the window.

Call of Duty 2 offers a surprisingly emotional experience for a game that will also be much adored by the more gung-ho gamer. Once you get past the mindless killing and violence, there is a heart rending account of the experience of war.

Fight Night Round 4 on 360 and PS3 aims to provide realistic boxing action on the big consoles. The sequel to the popular Fight Night Round 3, it offers plenty of options and moments of boxing history for fans. But for me, it completely lacked the juxtaposition of beauty and brutality that so transfixes me when watching the real sport. It's quite an enjoyable game against friends, but played alone it lacks heart and stymies progress.

Although Halo ODST caused a hesitant reaction in me, I'd been unenthused by earlier instalments of Halo, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed ODST. Offering a much darker, more sombre affair, Halo ODST felt more intelligent in its approach to storytelling than previous instalments. It might be a very short journey more akin to a movie experience than true gaming challenge, but it left me with a satisfying sense of pride at my accomplishment.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 explodes onto your screen with a furore of excitement. No surprise really considering the huge success of the first Modern Warfare 360, PC amd PS3 game. Unfortunately amidst this excitement and flashes of genius Modern Warfare 2 misplaces focus and ambition and turns into a rather messy overly complex experience. As my father used to say when I got overexcited as a child, 'It spoiled itself'.

Mini Ninjas is ridiculously sweet and charming throughout. Playing as one of six adorable pint sized heroes in their quest to save the world, the game is the perfect antidote to the many violent games out on the PlayStation 3 at the moment. It's a game that I found most enjoyable when taking it in turns with my nine year old cousin. It might not be a very long experience for the more experienced gamer but it's perfect for all the family to be entranced by and it teaches novice gamers some useful gaming skills.

A tightly clad female character, swords, guns and random goons. WET is a Quentin Tarantino film in game form. It is true popcorn gaming for the masses, a forgettable but palatable experience although you might have to leave any dislike for misogyny or gore at the door. I tried it mostly because I wanted something mindless but entertaining for a couple of days. WET mostly matched perfectly with my wishes, within seconds of finishing the game I had forgotten about it, much like a Summer Blockbuster.
