Your Shape Wii
Fighting games revolve around the interaction of two or more characters in some form of physical combat. Players learn to control characters through either memorisation of button combinations to access more advance moves, or by their reactions and accurate timing.
Pure fighting games revolve around an environment with limited movement, in which the player can choose from a wide range of characters, each with their own fighting style and special moves. Learning the animations of other characters enables players to predict and respond to their opponents moves more effectivley. These game franchises, such as Street Fighter or Virtua Fighter, have usually evolved over a number of itterations. Although gameplay often looks like little more than frantic mashing of buttons, there is a high degree of nuance and technique invovled to consistently win.
Brawler fighting games extend the general fighting action through sideways scrolling levels, and waves of enemies. Their focus on fast action fighting is much akin to tag team wrestling. Traditionally, brawlers enable up to four people to play together. Players both compete for score and assist each other by killing enemies. Along the way there are usually a variety of weapons that can be picked up and used as well as other environmental interactions. Levels are usually ended by a big boss who must be defeated before players can progress.

A few months ago I wrote a review of the Japanese release of Bayonetta. But reading back recently I'm now having second thoughts. The game had left me uninspired so I wrote the review out of a desire to produce some early reactions. But along the way my discussion took me away from what was really important - that Bayonetta left me cold. It was a situation where I could see what the game was doing, but only more recently started to appreciate it.
Your Shape on the Wii is not a fun game, but that isn't a criticism. With their latest addition to the increasingly crowded exercise game market Ubisoft have resisted the temptation to water down the hard work by trying to make things fun: there's no flying like a chicken, or water skiing, and no sunny islands. Your Shape has taken what made the granddaddy of exercise games, My Fitness Coach, such a great workout and added a unique technological twist.
Naruto Shippidem Ultimate Ninja 4, with a name like that, this demands to be an epic. In some ways, it is.
Worms has been enthused over since it's original, multiformat version arrived in the mid 90s. It's a bone fide classic beloved by armchair generals the world over, but is this latest installment worth adding to your multiplayer collection?
Castle Crashers DLC King Pack introduces two new playable characters and a couple of new pet pods to collect, but even though these two extras make no discernible difference to the game. I still had a great experience playing. Donning my multiplayer headset and mic, I waded in with eyes and ears wide open.
Castle Crashers on Xbox live is a treat to play. Simple direct and great fun. With my usual multiplayer specs on I also found other players that treated me well, and a game with loads of collaborative angles. This was only slightly tarnished by getting unexpectedly kicked to the lobby by the game a few times.
Bayonetta takes the base structure of Devil May Cry and turns it into a kaleidoscopic fruit basket of exorbitant gameplay, colour and style. Bayonetta is the ultimate video game. The sheer indulgent delight of sampling its intoxicating mix left me breathless with adoration for its balletic combat, fantastical characters and intriguing plot.
After playing Bayonetta I'm a little mystified as to how it's got such universal acclaim. Although by no means a bad game, it's dated and has plenty of flaws. I also found myself uncomfortable with some of the game's content -- and trust me, that takes a lot.
Ghostbusters the video game succeeds in the end by simply feeling right. Whether on 360, PS3 or Nintendo Wii, the game has enough of that Ghostbuster spirit from the movie to be forgiven it's slightly derivative game play. Not quite Batman Arkham Asylum but cut from the same cloth.
