New Games Headlines
Hot new family game news:
This is where each game's story begins. A distant speck on the radar slowly looms into view as we learn more about the game from the developers, publishers and PR representatives.
With quite literally hundreds of games coming out each month we can't cover them all. But here we bring together the games we are most excited about. Whether it's an exciting update of games we've already listed in our Recommended Games by Age Group list, or a new innovative title, we'll keep you posted on what's hot for family gaming:
- EA Grand Slam Tennis Wii - The addition of Nintendo's MotionPlus controller add on has led EA to create their first tennis game for some years. Looking like a fleshed out Wii-Sports Tennis, this game creates better one to one control of the racket as well as movement of the on court player with D-pad or Nun-chuck Analogue stick.
- Boom Blox Bash Party Wii - After the success of the first game EA return with a fleshed out sequel. Not only new types of interactions and blocks, but also new environmental effects like underwater and space make this a mouth watering proposition.
- Wii-Sports Island Wii - Nintendo's first party proof that their MotionPlus add-on makes all the difference in the control stakes. Wii-Sports 2, as it might have been called, provides new activities and interactions all of which are driven by gesture alone.
- Uncharted 2 PS3 - Those that haven't played the first game in the series missed out on a treat. Not just of high definition graphics and game play, but also of some solid emotive storytelling. The sequel looks to capitalise on this good work whilst taking advantage of a better understanding of PS3 hardware to increase the visuals and story.
- Tiger Woods 10 Wii - Tiger Woods on the Wii has had something of a bumpy ride. 07 showed great promise, whilst 08 delivered in most areas bar chipping then 09 got the fairway and chipping down but managed to problematise the put mechanic. Tiger 10 looks like this is the one where it all comes together. The putting from 08 with the fairway shots from 09 are joined by the extra draw/fade fidelity offered by the MotionPlus controls.
- Scribblenauts DS - This DS game creates an object rich world and sets you a variety of conundrums. The genius here is that its up to you how you use a combination of items to solve the problem. A cat is stuck in a tree, do you use a saw to cut it down, a ladder to climb up, or a stick and string to crane it down. It really is that flexible.
- Halo Recon 360 - The Halo series is the master of the man-on-man encounter. Two foes try and outwit each other as they determine which weapons and attacks to use. This 30 seconds of fun is then set in an unfolding multiplayer of campaign. This time out the franchise takes a new hero and more stealthy approach to action along with it. The developer's (Bungie) reputation make this an exciting proposition.
