Wii-Ware Game Reviews

Xbox Live Arcade is the donwload video game service on the Xbox 360 console from Microsoft. Along with it's Xbox Live pioneering online gaming community, their service offers a wide range of games to download.

Let's Catch is a Nintendo Wii-Ware gem that wouldn't work on any other console. But more than the intuitive controls and amiable game play it's the hard hitting dialogue that surprises here.

Bonsai Barber's haircut physics make mincemeat of other makeover games. The bargain Wii-ware game offers an intriguing Veggie Tales inspired world as endearing as any doe eyed Disney wannabe.

Maboshi Arcade at first seems to be a simple set of casual games, but turns out to be intricately linked puzzle experience that is as compelling as Tetris or Puzzle Bubble ever was. This is one of the best uses of the Nintendo Wii's Wii-Ware channel I've seen so far.

LostWinds Winter of the Melodias on the Nintendo Wii is the platforming sequel to popular WiiWare launch title. The game has a lot to live up to. But it manages to pull it off in what is arguable a better and more rounded sequel. The puzzles are back and are bigger and better than ever, and the gorgeous graphics return and flourish once again, continuing the series deceiving looks.

Swords and Soldiers by Romino Games presents itself as a real time strategy game, but adds a level of utter goofiness that can excite and interest gamers who've never played this type of game before. Yes, I'm talking about me.

Lost Winds is a beauty of a game, so gorgeous that it's tempting to overlook its flaws - the chief one of which is that while its simplicity of story and child protagonist make it appear that the game is perfect for children, the controls are so difficult to maneuver. Very few children under 10 years of age will have the dexterity to play the game. It's like having a kindly, beautiful kindergarten teacher who refuses to teach anything but calculus.

There are not many times that good video gaming ideas are allowed to stand on their own merits. There seems to be the need to embellish and enrich our gaming experiences until that initial imaginative spark is overpowered.

As Paul Leader of Wii-Fit Forum found out, the release of Tetris Party is well timed. Last month I had my 30th birthday, and as a result I have been doing a little bit of regressing (I got Lego). Right on cue, along comes Tetris Party on WiiWare to take me back to my first year at high school, being hypnotized by the ever faster cascade of bricks on the tiny monochrome screen of the old Gameboy, all the while humming along to Korobeiniki.
