PSP Game Reviews

The PSP is the most powerful portable gaming device we have seen to date. It combines on the go gaming with impressive graphics and sound.

You will find all this and more in our Xbox PS3 coverage. Here, we list all the reviews and guides written by our various artists.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 expertly fits the PS3 game into the diminutive PSP. In doing so it shouts from the rooftops how good the under-appreciated original turn-based action strategy really was. The unsettling tension and unnerving decisions that arise from the nuanced play style continue to haunt me on the PlayStation Portable.

Echoes is a good examples of frivolous gaming. It's one of the new PSP Mini range that are soon playable on the PS3 as well. As such, it doesn't offer anything more than a distraction compared to meatier games. What it does offer though is challenging fun for five minutes, even if it's not exactly thought provoking. More suited to PlayStation Portable then than big brother PS3

Much like Echoes, Blast Off is another great example of a game that you can dip in and out of. Fitting it's PSP Mini format well, it might not be the lengthiest of games nor the most complicated of games but it is certainly enjoyable. Blast Off on the PlayStation Portable is that strange combination between compulsion and frustration that at times came close to being thrown out of the window.

Half-minute Hero on PSP is a frantic little game of three parts - each one having 40 missions that can be completed in just 30 seconds. Those that can revel in games that are simply fun, funny and entertaining and aren't put off by geeky gamer in jokes will have a blast here. It's a technical marvel that so much gameplay has been crammed into so short a playtime.

Assassin's Creed comes to the PSP complete with an open world, pakour moves and of course Assassins. Set bet, set between the PS3, 360 and PC Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, Assassin's Creed Bloodlines aims to answer remaining questions. While it delivers a smooth flowing visual, the game is ultimately hampered by players memory of the big console Assassin's Creed games, and awareness of compromises taken here..

Tekken 6 for Sony's PlayStation Portable redefines the handheld fighting game genre with its excellent controls and engaging style. The new High-definition graphics and flawless 60 frames per second mean that this latest iteration of the popular fighting game is the best yet. With forty unique characters to master and destructible scenery you can punch your enemies through, Tekken 6 for PSP is the best fighting game you can buy for a portable system.

Invizimals is a spiritual sequel to Eye of Judgment, except here on the PSP you don't have to collect cards - all you need is one Capture card. Add to this the got to collect them all Pokemon gameplay and you have a PlayStation Portable game with grand ambitions. Unfortunately, the PSP's hand held technology isn't quite up to that of EyePet's static PlayStation Eye and things get a little haphazard.

The Monster Hunter series is monstrous in Japan and the far east. So monstrous in fact, that its enormous claws are stretching over to western shores as Capcom tries to make the PSP release every bit as desirable to us uneducated gamers. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PlayStation Portable includes Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and it's titular expansion pack. And is, as I found out, very tough to love.

Back together for the first time on PSP, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier takes the series to new heights as the duo battle space pirates and head into the clouds to stop their planet from destruction. Offering a new PlayStation Portable twist on the traditional platforming style of the past, The Lost Frontier mixes the usual running and jumping mechanics with some excellent new air combat sections that will have you blasting down Pirate cruisers and upgrading a variety of stunning fighters.
