The PS3 was released after the 360 and Wii. As such it is reported to be audio visually superior. Although needing to make up ground against its main competitor the 360, the PS3 has incrementally developed a solid offering and interesting array of games.
The PS3 is unique because of its position as a high end entertainment device. It maintains a sense of a high fideltiy with its built in wireless internet connection, Blu-ray support and built in power supply. Sleek lines and minimal cables make it easy to accomodate under the TV. More about the PS3 range of consoles.
Here are the latest PS3 games we have been playing:
Valkyria Chronicles is stunningly unique in both visuals and strategic game design. A blend of calligraphy, Manga and war-time show reels, it looks like it plays - like nothing else on the PlayStation 3. But it was Valkyria Chronicles ability to make me care about each character that really hooked me in, and created some frightful decisions to make.
Buzz Junior Dino Den PS3 isn't technically a quiz game. Instead it offers a kid's mini-game collection. Although this development technique lacks in variety and there's little to entertain adults, it's spot on for kids.
MAG could shine if only a grownup audience started playing. As it stands, the juvenile players mar MAG's technically impressive experience, even for a PS3. Nevertheless it's still an intriguing proposition for any older family member with a strategic bent.
There's a moment in Dark Void when the mythos of the Void world, the history of the Bermuda Triangle and the shadow of World War Two come together and create a brief instant of epic storytelling. Unfortunately, that fleeting moment is buried under generic gameplay and a lurching narrative that lead towards an unsatisfying end which left me disappointed.
It was the setting of Siren Blood Curse that undid me, at once both familiar and changed. The PS3 exclusive updates the 2004 experience and breaths a fresh sense of unease into every crevice.
FRAGnStein Wireless Laser Mouse creates a compromise between mouse/keyboard and joy-pad. Learning a trick of two from the Wii-mote, the FRAGnStein Wireless Laser Mouse provides precision pointing without a keyboard. While not quite as couch friendly as the Wii-mote it is an interesting a new way to control you PS3 and PC games.
Dragon Age Origins on the PS3 is an absolutely epic role playing game with swathes of intimacy in the form of dialogue, relationships and characters finding out their stories. The effort and craft creates a game that can be tailored for each and every player.
Coming back into gaming after missing a good portion of the noughties, I was newbie to the recent survival based horror games that had been floating around the market. The closest I had got was watching the excellent Resident Evil trilogy of films. Siren: Blood Curse promised to give me a glimpse into what I'd been missing.
You haven't experienced a real online shooter until you've played MAG for PlayStation 3. Forget matches of 8 vs. 8, in MAG you'll be playing in a battlefield filled with 256 other players, all in their own 8-man squads. From directing air-strikes, taking part in parachute jumps and taking out enemy emplacements you'll be working towards eliminating the other team. Work towards taking command of your 8-man squad and then lead them across the battlefield to glory and promotion. MAG is the biggest and most ambitious virtual war game that has ever been attempted on a home console - lock and load soldier!
When Capcom released the original Resident Evil it captivated me. Each subsequent game in the franchise has had me looking for that magic of the first game. Yet with every release, the series has moved ever further from the original, so that by the time I played Resident Evil 5 I had to face the fact that this is not the same game I fell in love with.
